Guyra Spring Troutfest coincides with the opening of the Trout Fishing Season and with beautiful Spring . Guyra is the ideal location to try your hand at trout fishing as well as fishing for other native fish. Most of the streams around Guyra are trout declared streams and are stocked with trout annually by local volunteers and members of the Guyra Anglers Club. Trout fry are supplied by the LP Dutton Trout Hatchery near Ebor. There is also a variety of private dams for trout fishing and public dams for a wide range of native fish at Malpas and Copeton Dams. Because of Guyra's reputation for trout fishing several accommodation businesses cater for fishers on the banks of streams or dams. Call at Dasha's Hardware for a map of public fishing locations.
Guyra Anglers Club will hold the John Wilcox Fishing Classic event for juniors and seniors to try their skills for prizes. Applications can be obtained by emailing the club at [email protected].
There will also be lots of fishing information at the Market Days and fishing for children at the tenth dam opposite the Guyra Bowling Club.
Spring in Guyra- Open Gardens
October is also the time when the delights of the spring season can be enjoyed and gardens and pastures are springing from their winter dormancy into the vibrancy of that first growth. It's a great time to visit the Guyra district to see our three gardens or take a self-guided tour around the Guyra district to enjoy the sights. Our season is fabulous this year and we are expecting great things. Open Garden Maps will be available at GALA or the markets. Visit the villages of Ben Lomond and Black Mountain.
Art
Each year we old a very popular Art Expo bringing entries from all over the New England. This year our art will be on display in two locations including amongst the vintage cars at Burgess's Garage and across the road at the GALA centre. There is a people's choice prize.
Produce and Heritage Trail
You can discover some of the hidden delights of our little town of Guyra as you wonder around town shops with the Chamber of Commerce's Produce and Heritage Trail Booklet. The entry booklet can be found at GALA or the markets.
